Messaging
All Juilliard Students, Staff and Faculty are provided with a full-functioned Outlook client that also acts as a personal information manager integrating e-mail with calendaring, task and contact management. Mailboxes are accessible using OWA (Outlook Web Access) from any internet-connected browser anywhere in the world.
Addresses are in the form: user@juilliard.edu . Alumni are currently offered e-mail-forwarding-for-life in the form: user@JuilliardAlumni.net .

Students are allowed to store up to 100 MB  of data in their mailboxes. There are no limits to the size of Staff and Faculty mailboxes. All users are strongly encouraged to periodically delete old and unneeded files from their mailboxes.
For all users, the following limits apply: Outgoing e-mails may not exceed 10 MB in size, while incoming ones may not exceed 20 MB. No more than 5,000 recipients are allowed on any one e-mail.

Colleague
Datatel’s Colleague Student Information System is an enterprise application solution Juilliard utilizes to manage several aspects of the ongoing operation of the School. It includes a Student Module that manages all aspects of student record keeping and faculty assignments.  Also included in Colleague is a Human Resource module designed specifically for higher education.  There are many offices which rely heavily on the Colleague application, including, but not limited to, Admissions, Business Office, Financial Aid, Human Resources, and the Registrars’ Office.

Colleague also has a self-service web-based product called WebAdvisor, which Juilliard has implemented to be used by students, staff and faculty.  Here users may access employee and student record information as well as register for classes.

The IT Department has a specialized group of individuals devoted to providing top level support for Colleague and the other third-party applications which interface with it.  Be it a major system upgrade,  software customizations or training, the Colleague IT Team is always striving to make the Colleague suite of products available and user-friendly for all students, staff and faculty.  Any questions, comments, or problems regarding the Colleague application should be directed to IT_Helpdesk@juilliard.edu.

Raiser's Edge
The Juilliard School’s development operation is powered by Raiser’s Edge. Much more than just a storage place for donor information, The Raiser's Edge is a complete fundraising system that helps us communicate with our constituents and make better decisions through its powerful querying, analysis and reporting capabilities. It also includes the NetCommunity Alumni portal that allows Juilliard alumni to share information amongst themselves.

Wireless
It is the stated aim of the Juilliard School to provide members of the community enhanced access to computing resources, ensuring the swift and accurate exchange of information. Towards this end, wireless network access is available in many areas of the School providing Juilliard’s Students, Staff and Faculty easy wireless access to computing resources.
Hot spots
The ultimate plan is to establish ubiquitous wireless capability in all areas of the School. In the interim, access is available in designated areas around the campus where wireless networking is enabled. These are commonly called hot spots. And include the following:

  • Outdoor Plaza (Lincoln Center in conjunction with Nokia will now provide free access in all outdoor areas of the Lincoln Center campus.
  • First floor lobby
  • Second floor lobby
  • 3rd floor (Dance area)
  • Student Lounge on the 11th floor of the Rose Building  (1)
  • The Juilliard Library 5th floor
  • Juilliard/SAB Cafeteria

Technology
802.11 b using captive portal technology running on a Mikrotik Router and a RADIUS authentication server.

Security
To ensure that critical institutional data is kept secure, the following security measure will be implemented:

  • All Wi-Fi network traffic is segmented from regular network traffic via a VLAN
  • Only Juilliard Students, Staff and Faculty may use the wireless network. They will need to supply credentials to access the network.
  • Juilliard’s key institutional management applications like Colleague and Raiser’s Edge will be not be accessible via the Wi-Fi segment of the network.

ResNet
Each ‘pillow’ in Juilliard’s Meredith Wilson Residence Hall has a Cat 6 voice and data connection (approximately 360 in total). As part of their dorm fee and in conjunction with PaeTec Communications, each resident is offered access to a bundled service comprised of telephone service and high-speed internet service.

Remote Access
For those users who need it, full access to selected Juilliard resources is available via a Citrix Metaframe XP server. Other users may securely control their office desktop PCs via Microsoft Remote Desktop tool and a VPN connection. There is also other web-based access to selected enterprise applications.

Printing
Administrative users have full access to appropriate printing resources in their offices or work areas. A number of high-capacity printers some with color capabilities and special paper handling features are available. Faculty members may use the printers in either the Faculty lounge (Room 527) or the PC Computing labs. All student-generated print output is processed through a Print Accounting system. At the beginning of each year, each student is granted a $50 allowance (500 pages @ $0.10 per page). Students who use up their allocation must pay for additional pages.

AV Support
The IT Department maintains an inventory of AV equipment specifically LCD projectors, laptops and portable screens that it loans out for community use. Limited support is available for this equipment. Requests for AV equipment MUST be as far in advance as possible to ensure availability. While we will do all we can to assist you, the Helpdesk cannot run your presentation for you and the expectation is that the equipment is provided on a self-serve basis.

Hosted Video
Juilliard IT has the capacity to host and serve web-based video content from our Quicktime Streaming Server. Limited support is available for this. Juilliard IT can assist in the encoding of completed video content but offers NO production support.
Juilliard IT is also able to store rich content (video, music) on its networked rich media storage server. This is separate from the administrative shares where the storing of rich content is strongly discouraged.
